Understanding Global Warming

Global Warming is the increase of the temprature in the earth's atmosphere, oceans, and lands. Currently, the earth's temptrature has increased rapidly over time and scientists believe it is because of human activities such as burning fossil fuels. This can cause carbon dioxide gas that can rise up to the earth's atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels also can cause the creation of greenhouse gas. If those gases rise up to the earth's atmosphre, it can collect and maintain the heat from the sun, and that's why we have global warming.

Facts and Statistics about Global Warming

The normal temprature of the earth's surface 100 years ago, is about 15C (59F).

Now, it had risen about 0.6C (1F)

Over 100 years from now, scientists predict we will have increase temprature about 1.4C - 5.8C (2.5F - 10.4F). This rapid increase can melt the polar ice caps and glaciers. Because the ice melts, it can also raise the sea level about 9 - 100 cm (4in. - 40in.).

There are many bad effects of Global Warming:
- More rainfall in warmer regions.
- Possibly it can drown some coastal islands.
- Soils will dry out.
- Because the soils dry, no plants for food supply can live, may cause hunger.
- Animals that live in warm region might move to polar region to find cooler tempratures.
